Buffy Season 8: Will the Vampire Slayer Return?

Buffy Season 8: Will the Vampire Slayer Return?

“Buffy – In Spell of the Demons” came to an end after seven successful seasons and is now still immensely popular today. What about season 8 of the vampire series?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer” started in 1997 and ended after seven great seasons in 2003 with a rather open, but satisfying ending. Fans of the series could continue to rejoice until 2004, however, because the equally popular spin-off series “Angel” ran a year longer and ended after season 5. The demon hunter Buffy Summers, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar (“Masters of the Universe: Revelations”), was not only the chosen one in the series, but also shaped an entire generation. She embodied a character with whom we not only cheered on the hunt for demons and vampires, but whom we were able to participate in everyday life and growing up with her friends and companions Angel (David Boreanaz), Willow (Alyson Hannigan), Xander (Nicholas Brendon), Giles (Anthony Head) and Spike (James Marsters). Will we be able to do the same in season 8 of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”?

Children of the 90s still hope for a return of their favorite series. Will there be a sequel to “Buffy” or will it remain an open-ended series?

Buffy season 8 will no longer be released

“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” still has a very large fan base today, which continues to hope that the fantasy series will continue. Over the years, there have been many ideas about what form “Buffy” could possibly return. Among other things, there was the idea of an animated series, which was not produced after all. Other spin-off ideas about the characters Spike and Giles also circulated once. The fact is that both creator Joss Whedon (“The Nevers”) and Sarah Michelle Gellar had reached the end of their journey with the vampire hunter Buffy after season 7. TV Guide also conducted an interview at the time about the end of the series and the possible future. Whedon explained why he definitely won’t continue “Buffy”, even though most of his actors still look good. “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” season 8 will no longer come, because Gellar also ruled out a return as Buffy Summers. But could the “Buffy”/”Angel” universe continue without the original cast?

The future of “Buffy” and your alternatives to season 8

Even though season 8 of “Buffy” will no longer be released in series form, we can comfort you. “Buffy” has already been officially continued as a comic series. In addition to the original story, which Joss Whedon personally continued in comic form, there has also been a reboot as a comic series of the Boom! Studios. So what could be more obvious than a reboot of the series? There are serious talks about this as well and it looks like it is actually in the works.

Until the “Buffy” reboot becomes reality, these alternative series can provide the best entertainment:

  • If you’ve seen “Buffy”, you should definitely watch the spin-off series “Angel“. Like “Buffy”, this is currently available to stream on Disney+.
  • When it comes to vampires, there’s no way around one of the best vampire series: “Vampire Diaries”. The fight between two vampire brothers (Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley) for the beautiful Elena (Nina Dobrev) is absolutely worth seeing. The series is currently available on Netflix.
