Mandatory for “Lord of the Rings” fans: New epic trailer for Amazon’s “Rings of Power”

Mandatory for "Lord of the Rings" fans: New epic trailer for Amazon's "Rings of Power"

With another spectacular trailer for the new episodes of the fantasy series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”, Amazon is stoking the anticipation of fans.

“Three rings to the elven kings high in the light,

Seven to the dwarven rulers in their halls of stone,

To mortals eternally doomed to death, nine.

One to the Dark Lord on Dark Throne,

In the land of Mordor, where the shadows roar.

One ring to rule them, to find them all,

To drift into darkness and bind forever.

In the land of Mordor, where the shadows threaten.”

The titular Rings of Power and their creator Sauron are at the center of the action in the upcoming new episodes of the Amazon series “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Season 2. According to showrunners Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne, they form the backbone that connects the world of Middle-earth and everything in it (via Den of Geek). And that’s exactly what a new trailer illustrates, which even surpasses the preview shown by Amazon at San Diego Comic-Con International (SDCC):

While Sauron misled elves and humans in season 1 as Halbrand from the Southlands, although he never actually lied to them – except for his identity – he will appear in the new episodes as a beautiful elf named Annatar. So he deceives Celebrimbor, the supreme blacksmith of Eregion, and introduces himself to him as the “Lord of Gifts”. Together, they will forge 16 rings of power: seven for the dwarves and nine for the humans. The trailer shows the three rings Narya (Círdan the Shipbuilder), Nenya (Galadriel) and Vilya (Gil-galad), which Celebrimbor forged alone for the Elves and which he keeps hidden from Sauron/Annatar. The big difference to the novel by J.R.R. Tolkien is that the three elven rings in the Amazon series were already forged first at the end of season 1. Only the One Ring, which Sauron will forge in the fire of Mount Doom, is not revealed in the trailer.

McKay and Payne had previously announced that Season 2 will focus on the shapeshifter Sauron and his scheming sneaky game (via Collider):

“Season 2 is about the villains, and Sauron in particular. We will see how he uses deception, manipulation, lies, coercion and cunning to set the chess pieces in motion. He’s going to take care of this person here and play this group off against that group. He will use the characters’ trust, mistrust and fears against them to create situations that benefit him.”

“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”: Gigantic battle announced

Fans of sprawling and spectacular battles will get their money’s worth in “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” season 2, McKay and Payne promised at SDCC. There will be a battle that will run over three of the eight episodes (via Deadline). The big question is what battle it will be. Season 2 of “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” will be available via Amazon Prime Video from August 29, 2024.
